Every time I think of Katz’s I think of pastrami and When Harry Met Sally. Not that strange cause Katz’s pastrami is iconic and the When Harry Met Sally scene is part of the modern cultural lexicon. So famous that even though I have never seen the film, the “I’ll have what she’s having” scene and Katz’s are intertwined in my mind. Yeah, it’s weird, that I, a huge rom-com fan, haven’t seen one of the quintessential 80s rom-com. It’s on my to-watch list, I just haven’t gotten around to it.
Like the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, Katz’s is a New York institution. They’ve been carving out pastrami, corned beef, and brisket for over 130 years! Every year, thousands of people flock to the Lower East Side to the legendary Jewish delicatessen for a bit of nosh, but if it’s your first time, here’s a tip: DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKET! When you enter, they’ll hand you a ticket – as emphasized: don’t lose this! Then you’ll go up to the counter and order. If you’re dining in, you can gaze upon all the celebrity photos adorning the walls. Cash is paid on the way out. If you want to pay with a credit card, you have to see the manager in the back or something like that, I’m not too sure, I’ve always paid cash.
Anyways, if you go, let me know how you like it!
