If you find yourself driving along PCH in May you will most likely see fluttering flags lined across the Newport bluffs. For the past twelve years, the Newport Harbor Exchange Club places 1776 American flags along the pathways of Castaway Park to honor service members and first responders. Yellow ribbons are tied below each flag, some with names and/or pictures of fallen soldiers. The “Field of Honor” can be seen starting from Armed Forces Day (May 15th) through Memorial Day (May 31st).
