Remember at the beginning of the stay at home order when everyone was making dalgonas aka TikTok coffee? Seems like a lifetime ago. Well, I’ve circled back to that, but instead of fluffy coffee, it’s fluffy matcha this time around.
Is there a strict definition of dalgona? I’m not sure. I have always just assumed that dalgonas are fluffy coffees or in this case teas. But all the matcha dalgona recipes I’ve come across incorporated egg whites. Since I opted out of egg whites and subbed in coconut milk instead, is it still a dalgona? Perhaps it’s just a fluffy coconut matcha oat milk latte? Or maybe it’s both? Whatever it is, it’s yummy.
Matcha is a Japanese green tea powder that is made by grinding young green tea leaves into a fine powder. It’s chock full of antioxidants and good for your health stuff. It has more caffeine than regular old green tea, but less caffeine than coffee, making it a great afternoon pick me up.
I used coconut milk from either the can or carton. The brands I normally use are Aroy-D, Chaokoh, or Thai Kitchen.
